Continuum Artist Workshops

As part of Continuum: Bridging the Distance, Seattle Dance Collective is pleased to offer a series of online classes during the month of July to bring audiences closer to the artists involved, and to deepen their understanding of the art form.

 

All classes are free with registration. Donations are encouraged.

Waiver of Liability / Acknowledgment of Risk / Photo & Video Release

 

I understand and agree that in participating in any Seattle Dance Collective (SDC) class, there is a possibility of physical injury. I agree to release and hold harmless SDC, including its teachers, dancers and staff members, from any cause of action, claims, or demands now and in the future. I will not hold SDC liable for any personal injury or any personal property damage which may occur during or after classes, and I understand that I should be aware of my, and/or my child’s physical limitations and agree not to exceed them. Furthermore, I authorize and agree that SDC may take and use photographs/videos of me and/or my child for purposes of record-keeping, advertising, and marketing. I understand that I do not have any rights to these photographs/videos and will not be compensated for the same.

 

By registering for any Seattle Dance Collective class, I certify that I am 18 years of age, or the parent/legal guardian of the participant, and I acknowledge acceptance of this waiver and agree to the guidelines

outlined above for me/or my child.

Luigi Jazz* Stretch and Intermediate/Advanced Ballet / Online

Instructors: Elle Macy and Dylan Wald

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Start your day with two rising stars in the dance world as they lead you through a Luigi Jazz* stretch warm-up, followed by a ballet technique class.

*
Eugene Louis Faccuito aka Luigi, was the innovator of the world’s first Jazz technique. After a tragic car accident left him paralyzed, Luigi developed a stretching exercise routine that helped him control his body and ‘feel from the inside out’. This helped him regain enough strength and equilibrium to continue his dancing career. His technique has been passed down through three generations of dancers in Elle’s family.

Join dancer/choreographer Miles Pertl as he takes you through the basics of barre technique, designed for dancers at every level. Live musical accompaniment by SDC resident pianist Christopher Ferris.

Beginning Movement Exploration / Online

Instructor: Leah Terada

Level: Beginner to Advanced

Explore creative movement through improvisation with dancer Leah Terada. Leah’s class focuses on organizing tasks and patterns in order to bring purpose and ease to your movement. BYOE (bring your own environment!).

Ballet Figure Drawing / Online

Instructor: Sydney M. Pertl

Level: Open to All

Learn from visual artist Sydney M. Pertl, as she guides you through drawing techniques to capture dance on paper. The class will begin with some fun drawing exercises, followed by figure drawing tips and tricks from the ground up. Learn proportions, anatomy, and how to start seeing like an artist! Post-class practice is encouraged with a call to submit sketches to SDC for community sharing on our Instagram!

Contemporary Class / Online

Instructors: Alice Klock and Florian Lochner, FLOCK

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Join the founders of FLOCK, one of the most exciting new additions to the contemporary dance scene, as they help you research physicality, and find and inhabit your personal artistry. Class will begin with subtle strength and stability exercises, coupled with somatic and improv-based techniques, leading into an exploration of FLOCK’s unique style, philosophy, and phrase work.

Post-Workout Cooking and Kombucha Basics / Online

Thurs Jul 16 - 11:30AM - 12:30PM PDT

Instructor: Lucien Postlewaite

Level: Open to All (*adult supervision recommended)

Enter Lucien’s kitchen where he will guide you in making one of his favorite summer salads, perfect for a post-workout recovery or simply to enjoy at a picnic. A self-described “fermentation nerd”, Lucien will also teach you the basics of brewing homemade Kombucha.

Shopping list (organic ingredients highly recommended!)

For Salad: quinoa, blueberries, arugula, mint, lemon, pine nuts and/or cashews, high-quality olive oil, high-quality balsamic or sherry vinegar, vegetable bouillon, salt
For Kombucha:  cane sugar, black tea, SCOBY, glass fermentation container (large kilner jar)

Join dancer/choreographer Amanda Morgan in this introductory class for improvisation and movement study. The only requirements are that you are open-minded, explorative and ready for fun!

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

SDC Artistic Directors Noelani and James create a fun, no-pressure environment for a

60-minute class with a simple barre and a bit of center, including live musical accompaniment by SDC resident pianist Christopher Ferris. Cool down and stay online for an informal discussion about their careers in dance, all things SDC, and get your burning questions answered!
